The Letter “C”

Filed under: Uncategorized — ashley1011 at 1:29 pm on Friday, February 25, 2011

Flip it upside down , you have a bowl.

When it turns on it’s side, its a hill.

A cartoon character’s nose !

A swollen tongue, after eating the hot soup out of the bowl.

The turtle’s big toe !

An unfinished “e” .

Oh yeah  don’t forget ! It looks like a “C” !

1) The Germans decided to hang a few people in public , to warn the people that they better be afraid because they could get the same thing.

2) In the beginning, Elie was very close to his father but towards the end they grew apart. I think these changes occured because Elie saw what his father was going through, he was use to it. When he saw his father get hit , there was no point to waste his breath because he couldn’t do anything about it.

3) The significance of the spoon and knife , was that it was his fathers last belongings and he wanted to leave his son something to remember him by.

4) His experience did change his beliefs because at first he was a great believer , but now he see’s there isn’t a point because it isn’t working.

5) The German workmen forced the prisoners to run people over, causing a stampede in the wagon. These actions suggest that he is a cruel person. This incident suggest that the prisoners are trying their best to survive among all odds, even though people are being killed.

6)  Elie’s conflict was that his father was dying. He was very ill and there was nothing Elie could do about it, so he just let him die.

7) On January 28th , the Germans hit Elie’s father and his emotional status was weak because he couldn’t do anything.

8) The sentence means that he has been through so much and it broke him down, yet he is still here.

9) Elie uses exact details and is honest about the whole situation. He reveals a lot of personal situations. He has been very successful and strong.

10) The meaning is that he always seemed to understand things when night fell. The worse things happened at night. I would change it to “My Journey” because he has been though a lot and he still survived.

Questions From Part 1 & 2 .

Filed under: Uncategorized — ashley1011 at 1:24 pm on Friday, December 17, 2010

1)  Elie describes himself as young, skinny and weak.

2) Moshe the Beadle is a man who lived in the town of Sighet. He always charmed the people of Sighet. He was a man of all work at Hasidic Synagogue.

3) The town responded to Moshe the Beadle by taking him as a joke and not believing what he said.

4) I think he began the story with Moshe the Beadle because it shows how he was trying to be a helpful, happy person , but people were skeptic.

5) The German soldiers slowly took over Sighet by evacuating the people and placing them into the ghettos.

6) Elie’s family was seperated because they got divided by their gender, so he got divided from his mother and sisters.

7) I think the Germans did all those things to the Jews to show them that their worthless and they don’t deserve those things.

8)  ”One Long Night” means that his life will just be dark for a long time. Their won’t be any happiness in his life anymore.

9) My reaction to the novel so far is that I know it will not be getting any better. Elie’s life will never be the same . He will have to deal with terrible situations . I believe the story will be tragic in the upcoming.

Poem For Night.

We were masters of nature, masters of the world.

Not to feel anything, neither weariness, nor cold, nor anything.

But we marched without flattering.

Indifference deadened the spirit.

My mind was invaded suddenly by this realization-there was no reason to live, no more reason to struggle.

6 Passages From “Night”

Passage 1 : Page 16

“We were ready. I was first to leave. I did not want to see my parents’ faces. I did not want to break out into tears.

Reaction: My reaction to this was that I felt sorrow. He was to miserable to even look into his parents eyes. He shouldn’t have to suffer from this. He was not ready to feel the emotions at that moment.

Passage 2: Page 31

“I bade farewell to my father , to the whole universe”.

Reaction: My reaction to this was devastated. He shouldn’t have to say goodbye to the universe at an age that long. He shouldn’t be faced with any type of death.

Passage 3: Page 31

” I was faced with the angel of death”.

Reaction: My reaction to this was confusion. He was making it seem as though death was a good thing. He had called it an angel. He was saying how an angel finally brought him the death that he seemed to want.

Passage 4: Page 16

“I looked at our house , where I had  spent so many years in search of god”.

Reaction: Ellie was saying he was leaving his home , where he searched for god. He couldn’t find him because of the situation they were in. Ellie is starting to doubt god.

Passage 5: Page 16

“Why, but why should I bless him? In every fiber I rebelled”.

Reaction: My reaction to this was I began to see Ellie changing. His train of thought was becoming different. At first he always worshiped his god , but now he is starting to doubt him. He is questioning the work of god.

Passage 6: Page 83

“We were masters of nature, masters of the world. We had forgotten everything-death, fatigue our natural needs.

Reaction: The men were starting to get use to the things that they were going through. They didn’t really pay attention to anything anymore. They just laid around dieing. Not having any care for the world around them.

December Book     Waistland by Abby Ellin

My book was called “Waistland”. I believe the author’s purpose was to entertain the readers with a story about a girls life story , and everything she was going through in her life. This book was intended for people who like to read about peoples life stories. I would rate this book as a “10″ because it was really detailed and it really made me get connected to it. It was a passionate book and it made me think. I would recommend this book to anbody.

Thank You Ma’am

This story is related to the poem because they both are trying to inform a young boy on what to do in life . They both are telling the boys to keep moving forward , but don’t look back . If Mrs. Jones had not taken Roger home, he would have still been doing the same things. Stealing things from people, and being disrespectful. He would not understand the fact that he doesn’t have to steal to get something. It’s easy to ask because the worst thing that could happen is being told ”no”.

DIALOUGE: (Mrs. Jones is walking by the college “Harvard”)

Mrs Jones:” Hello , how are you, Roger ?”

Roger:” Hey Mrs. Jones , I’m doing pretty good. How about you ?”

Mrs. Jones:” Well child, I’m doing pretty good myself. What you been up to lately?”

Roger:” Well, I’m in college playing basketball, I’ve gotten myself a job and a nice little apartment.”

Mrs. Jones:” It seems to me that you have gotten yourself together young man.”

Roger:” Yeah… I was just tired of living that same life. It wasn’t working out anymore. Ever since you treated me the way you did, my whole life changed , and I wanna thank you for that. Dearly.”

Mrs. Jones:” Thats good to know, I’m very proud of you, and your very welcome . Well I have to get going now. It was a pleasure running into you today.”(walking away).

Roger:” Wait !” (grabs Mrs. Jones arm).” I want to give you this”. (pulls out $100).

Mrs. Jones:” Well , I can’t take this.”

Roger: “Yes you can. It would do me good. It’s my way of thanking you.”

Mrs. Jones: “I’m sorry , but I can’t accept this”.

Roger: (Takes Mrs. Jones hand and places money inside. Then he closes her hand)” Thank You Ma’am. Thank You.”

The Necklace

If this story would’ve continued , I think Mme Forestier would return the money she owed , or just give Mathilde the necklace back. I believe she would do the right thing because it’s only right . Mathilde wasted most of her life trying to replace that necklace and finding the money for it.  Now the Loisels have to live a life they never expected , and that they do not want.

It’s never to late to recover beauty because it’s skin deep . She is beautiful on the inside for the good deed she did. The beauty she does recover won’t be the same anymore though. Mathilde has learned that you should confess to what you’ve done because you won’t know how to fix things in the end. You can’t get a response without asking a question first.

How to make American teens smarter .

The main problem is that teens aren’t reading on the level they should be . They aren’t where they should be academically . I do agree with the argument because teens should be reading more than they already are. My current book is called Somewhere In The Darkness ,  ands it’s about a boy who isn’t doing well in school. Then he gets a surprise by his father that can change his life.
